Dotage is a strategy game inspired by board games, where you take on the role of the Elder. In this game, you had a vision of a bleak future and decided to lead a group of villagers, called Pips, to a new valley to start afresh. Your Pips rely on your guidance to survive the events predicted by the Prophecy. The game features deep worker placement mechanics, allowing you to build your village and assign your workers to various tasks. These tasks include growing crops, herding animals, burying corpses, forging tools, upgrading buildings, training professionals, and producing a wide range of resources. It is important to carefully consider your decisions before passing the turn, as each move can have significant consequences.
As you progress in the game, you will uncover new buildings, with over 200 to discover, along with 30 different professions and 70 resources to manage. Each playthrough will be unique, as the memories of the Elder are unclear, leading to different game mechanics and content being unlocked. This includes new ailments, the appearance of mysterious VIPs, and the introduction of new Elders.
